Bring it on.

This morning, President Trump went on Twitter to announce that he was banning all transgender people from serving “in any capacity” in the U.S. military.

That isn’t just offensive and discriminatory. It isn’t just a violation of his campaign promise to protect LGBT citizens. Above all else, it’s just stupid and unpatriotic.

Anyone who wants to serve and is fit to serve should be welcome to serve. Anyone who’s willing to put their lives on the line for our country – regardless of their gender or sexuality – deserves our thanks and our respect.

There are thousands of transgender men and women wearing the uniform right now in the U.S. and around the world. The Trump administration isn’t even pretending that those individuals are unfit to serve – instead, they came right out and admitted that this is a political stunt that they think could hurt Democrats in the 2018 elections.

We cannot allow this administration to play political games when it comes to national security. And if Trump thinks kicking thousands of courageous service members out of our armed forces is a winning strategy for the next elections, I say bring it on.
