Kathleen's Record

Labor Law Enforcement & Worker Protection

Workplace safety and economic justice for Nassau’s workforce have always been at the heart of Kathleen’s agenda as Nassau’s chief law-enforcement official. Early in her first term, Kathleen put together the county’s first-ever prosecutorial unit devoted to investigating worker exploitation and developing ways to protect workers from unscrupulous employers.

Since the launch of the Labor Unit, Kathleen’s prosecutors have brought nearly three-dozen cases and recouped more than $2.1 million for victimized workers. Kathleen’s investigations don’t only make workers and their families whole, she also charges the defendants with the costs it took to bring them to justice so that taxpayers aren't left footing the bill for their crimes.

Kathleen’s record of aggressive and successful enforcement of New York’s labor laws has earned her endorsements from Long Island and New York State labor unions representing workers in healthcare, building trades, law enforcement and food service.
